3 months into this new mindset and I at least had focus. Experimentation continued and I was still looking for something, tho I kept going back to abstract, geometric, and figurative themes.
I like the idea of someone having an individual and collective experience at the same time. For the more abstract images I try to not lead to viewer with my preconceived notions. I think even something like a title can taint the experience, but it’s all in the intention.
I’ll name a project or series to give myself some focus and clarity to come back to. The name is usually also where the idea springs from.
I was experimenting with the various sizes of media I had. The large pieces of cardboard I’d been scavenging gave me the opportunity to work larger than I had previously. In the sketchbooks I was getting ideas down and splashing colors on them trying to juxtapose the line and color.
I like graphic images with offset color. I also like Ben Day dots, not to be confused with halftone, tho they are kind of similar.
This month also had me playing with minimalism and repetition and, yes, there is a digital Rothko reproduction in there…
some of these are offered in the store.
